Dielectric elastomers (DE’s) are a potential material for future energy efficient electronics like actuators. They offer potential materials that are an alternative to rigid semiconductors and promise flexible and stretchable devices such as wearable sensors. Several multifunctional DE enhancements with nanomaterials have been extensively investigated, especially with carbon nanotubes. Here we report a statistically significant study of spray coating of graphene. To control DE conductivity, one has to use the correct combination of process inputs, such as spraying time, elastomer temperature and their interactions. We found that the interaction of plasma treatment time with the type of exfoliated graphite is extremely significant to the quality of the DE conductivity. The outcomes of this investigation are beneficial for moving closer to producing DEs devices on a commercial scale.
