GaN, a polar semiconductor with wide band gap, is the fundamental material of blue LEDs and emerging solid state lighting devices. It also has tremendous applications in high-power and high-temperature microelectronics. In this seminar, I’ll present a study of the fundamental optical transitions in GaN at different temperatures. Luminescence spectral features of various excitons, including heavy- and light-hole free excitons, shallow-donor-bound excitons and acceptor-like surface-defect-bound excitons, as well as their coupling with longitudinal optical phonons have been examined in the study. Temperature effect in these optical transitions of GaN has been particularly addressed. Some unidentified spectral structures will be also reported.
徐士杰,河北省唐县人。1993年于西安交通大学电子工程系获得博士学位。其后在中国科学院半导体研究所、新加坡国立大学、新加坡材料研究与工程所等单位从事研究工作。现任香港大学物理学系教授(终身教职),博士生导师。长期从事半导体光物理以及半导体光电子器件物理的研究工作,在宽禁带极性半导体以及它们的纳米结构的光学性质研究上,以及在半导体自组装量子点光物理及红外探测器应用方面做出了多项有一定国际影响的研究工作。主持完成多项香港研究资助局优配研究基金以及两项港大发展基金重大科学仪器建设项目,创建并主持港大物理系激光光谱实验室。2010年获国家自然科学基金海外及港澳学者合作基金项目。
