In this talk, I will discuss about “low dimensional silicon and water structures”. Silicon and water belong to ‘tetrahedral network’ liquid family. They exhibit many common behaviors in liquid to solid phase transitions. I investigated their phase behaviors in nanoscale confinements using Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. MD simulations revealed similar liquid to solid phase transition phenomena of water and silicon in confinement systems. The simulations also provide possible evidence of new low-dimensional polymorphs of silicon and ice. The low-dimensional structures of silicon were further examined by using ab initio calculation methods. Additionally, I will also present my recent works, “new phases of ice and clathrate in nanopores under high pressure.
