In this talk we shall give a general presentation of Université Pierre et Marie Curie and of our Department, Laboratory of Physical Chemistry - Matter and Radiation, in its history and modernity. In particular we shall present the keynotes of our research activities, focusing mainly on our originality concerning x-ray spectroscopies, instrumentation at large scale radiation international facilities, i.e. synchrotron radiation center and XFELs (Free Electron Lasers in the x-ray domain) and materials science.
