摘要:Transition-metal oxides usually have charge-spin-orbital degrees of freedom and display rich properties. In this talk, using a simple spin-orbital level diagram and density functional calculations, we will discuss a spin-orbital state driven metal-insulator transition and magnetic transition in layered cobaltates and nickelates [1]. We will also study the role of spin-orbit coupling in affecting/determining various magnetic structures of 5d transition-metal based oxides [2-4].
